clipped from forums.mozillazine.org my arrow keys and the page up / down and Home End keys don't work in Firefox. I used to be able to use the arrow keys to scroll the page as i was reading it. Now they either don't respond at all or they jump to some random spot in the page. Page up/down is the same way. Home and End don't respond at all. I know my keyboard is fine because everything still works in IE and all my other apps. Anyone got any ideas. Caret browsing might be on. Hit the F7 key to toggle it on and off. Tweak: How To Make the Address Bar NOT Select All in FireFox

If you would rather Firefox not select all the text in the address bar when you type, then try this tweak!

Did you notice the entire URL was then highlighted again? By default, it seems Firefox automatically highlights the entire URL, when you switch focus back to it from another application. You can change this setting, but it’s not directly available in the Preferences menu. You have to use about:config. In the address bar, type about:config, then hit Enter. go to the Filter field, and type urlbar. This will narrow down your choices. You should see browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll: Notice it is currently set to true. We’ll change this to false. Right-click on that line, and select Toggle: It should change the value to False. That’s it! You’re done! You may have to restart Firefox for the change to take effect.
