I blogged this post, simply by dialing a number on my cell phone, and speaking. That was it.
It was so cool, I wanted to share it with you. Now, I am sure someone has already created this "How To" but I am so jazzed about blogging from my cellphone, that I HAD to write this up!
What you need:
- A free account with Jott.com Jott is a FREE voice-mail transcription service. They take your voice, turn it into text and allow you to do many things with the message. One of which, is emailing it to a specific address. Such as, to you blog. Note: You have a 30 second time limit, but one can say a lot in that time. (Jott is for USA residents only for now) :(
- A Vox Blog, or any blog that will accept an email as a way to post content. I am using Vox, so that's what I will cover.
- A cell phone (or land line, but mobile is more fun)
What to do:
1) First, sign up at Jott.com and get your account set up. Jott's usefulness FAR exceeds this one use I am showing you, so later on, please be sure to explore all it can do!
They walk you through the process, and it takes less than 5 minutes.
Stay logged in at Jott for now.
2.) Next, if you blog at Vox, open a new browser window (or tab), log in to Vox and click on your "Account" link. You can get a FREE Vox account by clicking here.
Then go to Mobile Settings.
This is where Vox gives you a cryptic email address (to thwart spam to your blog). Drag your mouse across the text of the email address, and hit copy it.
Note: Many people use this email address for sending phonecam pics from their cell phones to their Vox Blog. If you have this set up already, scroll down to "Additional Posting Emails" and add click "Add a posting address."
Now, at this point, make sure that on the "Create Post" line you have "Yes" selected.
Also, you could (and should) add some tags. Any post you make will use these tags by default.
3) With the cryptic email address copied to your clipboard, go back to the Jott window or tab you have open. Click on "Contects" then "New Contact."
4) Once on the New Contact page, enter a first name - such as "Vox." When you call Jott, they will ask "Who do you want to Jott?" and you will say this name. So, pick a name you know is only for blogging.
For last name, how about "Blog."
This is the IMPORTANT part. For email, paste the email from your clipboard.
Click Save. You are all done with the web stuff now!
You: Dials #
Phone: "Who'd You Like To Jott?"
You: "Vox"
Phone: "Vox Blog" beeeeeep
You: "Hey, guess what? I am blogging this from my cell phone!"
6) Check your blog, and the post will look something like this!
7) You will probably want to go back and clean up your Jott post, it has a tendency to insert a lot of blank lines,
There you have it! An easy way to blog, right from your cell phone, from anywhere!
