Did I ever show you my tie?
This is my "Flying Toasters" tie, a tribute to the "After Dark" screen saver. Today we don't need screen savers, but we still have them. A holdover from a bygone era when you needed something in motion on your monitor to prevent screen burn-in.
I loved After Dark!
Sadly, "After Dark" is no more. It was HUGE for a while, and even spawned Simpsons, Disney and Marvel Comics versions, as well as a best forgotten era of "push" content delivery.
Apparently you can still get it to run on Windows XP, via some hacking and voodoo. Uneasy Silence has the details, and even links to the 10th Anniversary and Deluxe editions of "After Dark."
Did you know there was an "After Dark" book? I did, I saw it once in a bookstore when it came out in 1992. The title is "The Art of Darkness: The After Dark Companion" by Erfert Fenton (read review). I thought it was really cool that they included a floppy (yes, those) disk in the back of the book with 10 brand new AD modules. I passed on it because I didn't have a computer then. And I have been intending to get the book ever since. One day I shall have you....
