I took a big leap this week.
I signed up for, and took my first, watercolors class.
As may arts as I can do (draw, paint, sculpt), I have never done watercolors. Not because I was thinking I couldn't do it, just it never seemed worthwhile.
Well, I was wrong. The last few months PBS has been running a series that has this jolly fellow showing how to do watercolors. And it looked SO fun to me. Well, I just knew I had to try it.
Thing is, I don't have the energy/will to do much art at 10PM when I have free time. I am just not inthe creative mood, and I would rather not get something started when I am not "into" it.
I know some folks won't understand that. 'Specially when I try to explain that I have an "uncontrollable urge" to do something creative. A daily urge. One I can't usually do anything about. So I stuff it back in my mind and go on. And the next day, it happens again.
So I finally had enough, and I enrolled in the class. I bought my supplies. And I sat in my first art class since College.
Well, it was GREAT! Now, we didn't get to watercolor yet. We went over some techniques, some mindsets and some ways to start a painting.
We all went through some books and picked a photo to paint.
Then we sketched it and transferred it to our watercolor paper. That is where we left off.
I will have more to report, and maybe show, next Friday.
Maybe before then actually, My first photo I sketched and it turned out good, but wouldn't work so well for a watercolor -well not my FIRST watercolor. So I decided it worked better as a pen and ink, so I might work on that and show it here.
That is so awesome! I am always in favor of people developing their art skills. Can't wait to hear about your progress.

You are on LJ too? That rocks! I have a few friends that are strictly readers as well, so that's cool. It is more of my unprofessional business and politics journal, but it does talk more openly about my art and muself. Let me know when you find me so I can add you back. http://vaslittlecrow.livejournal.com
